SURVEY TITLE: National Survey of Substance Abuse Treatment Services

SURVEY PURPOSE: The National Survey of Substance Abuse Treatment Services (N-SSATS) is an annual survey of all facilities in the United States that collects information on location, characteristics, services offered and utilization. Information from the N-SSATS is used to compile and update the National Directory of Drug and Alcohol Abuse Treatment Programs and the on-line Substance Abuse Treatment Facility Locator.
LOCATION SAMPLED: United States.
YEARS SEXUAL ORIENTATION DATA COLLECTED: 2000+.
SAMPLE SIZE: 14,503 respondents (95.9%) in 2003 out of 15,124 eligible facilities.
METHOD OF SEXUAL ORIENTATION DATA COLLECTION: Primarily mail, but also internet and telephone.

RESULTS:
- In 2000, 15.1% of facilities reported providing special services to gays and lesbians. This decreased to 12.8% in 2002 and 5.5% in 2003 (see Table of Trends as well as the 2003 Report).
